Up Close: Red One Camera
There has been a lot of speculation, mystery and above all intense interest in the Red One camera from the innovative mind of Oakley founder Jim Jannard. So when we had the opportunity to see the camera in person, we jumped at the chance.
Presented by Mike Curtis of HD For Indies, the Red One camera was shown by Austin rental house Gear. The event was held at the 501 Studios. About 150 were on hand to watch an informative multi-media presentation by Mike, which included samples of Red One footage.
Mike also covered various mechanical features of the camera and went into detail about digital workflow requirements. This process can be a simple or complex endeavor depending on your particular needs. Mike touched on Redcine and Redcode, two important apps used in the post production processing of the raw Red One footage. In addition, Mike shot some footage of the crowd and a Q&A session wrapped up the show.
Red One will usher in a new era in live action acquisition. Jannard and Red are not only dedicated to making a camera that can produce stunning imagery, but are passionate about creating a product that won’t become obsolete as technology evolves. With directors like Steven Soderbergh and Peter Jackson on board, we like Red’s chances and plan to share in the Red Team’s vision.
